Summer activities


There is a range of sport and leisure activities in the village.

Paragliding above the chalet – landing down around between Lake Thun, Brienz and Interlaken. Wonderful alpine views of Eiger, Moench, Jungfrau and magnificent mountain scenery. Friendly English and International speaking instructors.

For a fun day giant scooter-trotti bike hire, organised in Beatenberg Tourist Office. Take the cablecar half way to the summit and on a special track roll down the mountain back to the Village, an amazing experience. On several mountains close by downhill summer rodelbahns operate – similar to Toboganning – some as long as 12km. Also mountain bike hire. Donkey trekking for children and animal farm parks. Golf is available in Interlaken. Canyoning and rafting can also be booked. Tennis courts for hire in the village, next to a well equipped play area with field trampoline for children.

Visit the popular high alpine paradise renowned for its glorious botanical alpine gardens. Accessed by romantic cogwheel railway overlooking lake thun, there are wonderful views of the alps. Anyone with a passion for teddy bears will love the Teddy Bear Museum on the summit.

120km of panoramic local hiking trails, most circular routes or returning to village by cable car/bus or on foot. Mountain restaurants en route with sun terraces, spectacular views and a panorama that is truly stunning.  The trails take you through aromatic pine forests, alpine pastures with alpine flowers and wild berries. The Beatus trail close to the chalet is especially for children. It winds through forests and pastures seeing cows with cow bells, goats and offering exciting wooden play structures and activities. Beatenberg and the Niederhorn 1950m is called Dragon Mountain (reflected throughout the village on signs and structures) as in ancient times it was thought dragons inhabited the Beatus caves underneath the mountain.


Hasliberg the dwarf mountain has hiking trails with miniature houses for dwarfs and activities en route – absolutely enchanting for adults and children. Barbecue and picnic spots near mountain streams are provided.

Lakes Thun and Brienz provide numerous restaurants offering fish specialities and local wines. Visit by car, train or steamer lovely shores with vineyards, waterfalls and castles exploring medieval and historical monuments in picture postcard villages overlooked by snow capped Alps. Lovely shores where vineyards thrive, figs ripen and nature reserves abound, romantic feudal castles manor houses, museums, medieval architecture, towns and villages full of characture and historical monuments, all enclosed by snow capped mountains. Numerous restaurants right on the lakeside offer stunning views with impressive mountain scenery –with fish specialities and local wine.

Water sports activities available on Lake Thun with boat hire.  Sailing, swimming, rowing, rubber boat hire to navigate the river Aare from Thun to Bern, kayaking down valley rivers, water skiing, fishing, paddle boats. Lake steamers on both Lake Thun and Lake Brienz are accessed in Interlaken -10mns by car from Beatenberg or hourly post bus near the chalet 15mins. Steamers on both of these Lakes offer day trips, circular tours evening and special events such as music evenings by moonlight.

Relax on off road cycle paths through sleepy villages, take a picnic for a day’s outing, stopping off at scenic pastures on circular cycle trails graded for easy rides for families to harder routes up and down Valleys. Bike hire available in all areas and they can be returned at any rail station.

Ancient Medieval Bern – The Capital of Switzerland is half an hours drive away or 20mins by train from Interlaken. The medieval town dates from 1191 and is a fascinating city to visit. Historic colourful fountains line the cobbled high street. The famous Cathedral dominates the city. The river Aare runs through the centre in a horseshoe. Cobbled streets, shops under arcades, museums, amazing underground train station, The Gurten accessed by funicular railway with childrens go karts, play areas and mini train. Swimming in the fast flowing River Aare for the brave hearted or in the city pool on the river shores. An interesting unusual Animal Park and Zoo on the riverside –The Tierpark with excellent play areas, restaurants and animal viewing areas.

The Open-Air Museum at Ballenberg. Everyone’s favourite outing. A magnificent natural setting with over seventy houses from every Swiss Canton showing how ancestral rural life took place, with traditional customs, workshops, wood carving, basket weaving, spinning, cheese and bread baking. Typical houses and settlements from every region in Switzerland. Village crafts from hat maker’s house to herbal apothecaries. Gardens and 250 mixed and old breed animals. Old farmhouse restaurant, shops, play areas, picnic spots and trails through the whole site set in the forest
